Social Media Carpetbaggers and Snake Oil Salesmen

In the past week, social media hype and the competency of  social media consultants have been analyzed from different vantage points by prominent writers. ClickZ published an article, Here Come the Social Media Carpetbaggers by Rebecca Lieb. Social Media Carpetbaggers Rebecca pointed out that a combination of the recession, the decline of traditional media, and the nearly zero [...]

Social Network Privacy Hampers Marketers

A shorter article than the past one. Privacy and spam concerns continue to induce Facebook and Ning to make changes that hurt marketers. Facebook, for example, will end network affiliations, while Ning has already disabled the sharing of any content across participating sites. Good-Bye Facebook Networks Facebook members now use school, city of company network affiliations to control [...]

The Social Media ROI Obsession

As a business community, are we obsessed with return on investment? Is our preoccupation with measuring social media ROI counterproductive? In this article I look at social media from what might be a novel perspective. I hope to convince you that social media use need not impact the bottom line over the short term, and that [...]

Looking for Traffic in All the Wrong Places

This is an article about how to get more web site traffic. Unlike most articles discussing how to get more web site traffic, this article focuses on optimizing sources of traffic rather than optimizing links or keywords. I’ve had some success getting web site traffic. Admittedly, I may never catch up to Seth Godin whose blog [...]

Twitter Stats Defy Measurement

Everything defies measurement and tracking. Everything, really. Try recording your food intake. If you’re an emotional eater, committing your diet to paper ought to make you feel quite uncomfortable. However, even if you eat normally, listing your meals poses the following interesting problem: Because you’re making a list of your meals and snacks, you’ll tend to make [...]

10 Easy Ways to Improve Your Blog or Website

Like you, I typically visit many blogs and websites each day. Some web sites clearly have it together. They have lots of traffic and appeal to visitors. Other sites aren’t bad. They have good potential. With a few tweaks here and there, they could enjoy much more traffic and appeal much more to their audience. I promised myself [...]

Twitter Lists Revisited

Since Twitter Lists Beta Observations and Tips one month ago, Twitter completed the roll out of Twitter Lists to all its users. Twitter members have been occupied with building and following lists, while the pundits have been occupied with observing and dissecting them (the lists of course, not the members). The reaction in the blogosphere [...]

Why WordPress? Plus List of My Top Dozen WordPress Plugins

What’s the big deal about WordPress? In Website vs. Web Presence, I emphasize the role of social media in web marketing. Darren Rouse, the author of 31 Days to Build a Better Blog, shares in a video his blog-centric approach to web marketing in which social media sites (which aren’t under our complete control) serve as outposts [...]

Top 10 Reasons Why the Twitter LinkedIn Partnership is Big News

We learn nearly every day of developments in the social media world which have the potential for far reaching impact. Take for example the recent integration of LinkedIn with Twitter. You can now tweet your LinkedIn status to your Twitter followers and automatically post your tweets to your LinkedIn status. It is easy to see that this [...]

The Blogger’s Guide to Links and Comments

No aspect of the Internet is more critical to understand than hyperlinks or simply links, as we call them. After all, what is the World Wide Web but countless documents which are interconnected by links? A web page without links in to it can never be discovered by search engines, nor will people find the page [...]

Big Time Social Marketer
About Me:

I live with my family in the Lower Hudson Valley about 35 miles northwest of New York City.

My work in business research, analysis and problem solving has impacted several industries and spanned more than three decades. However, recently I embarked on a much different course about which I am very excited.

The article Social Media One Bite at a Time relates the events in 2007 that piqued my interest in Web 2.0 social media and details the strategies that enabled me to become proficient in social media and a recognized authority on business networking.

Aside from business analysis, my present areas of expertise include Twitter, Ning social networks, blogging, search engine optimization and social media list building.

As the author of Online Social Networking, a nationally syndicated blog featuring thought-provoking outside-the-box articles on a broad range of business and social strategies, I also created two social networking sites: Outside the Box and Let's Follow Each Other.

Feel free to contact me. I am available to serve new clients. See the endorsements quoted at the bottom of my bio.

Thanks again!
