If you could be a master at just one thing that you believe would make your business a great success what would that be?

Soft skills are better known as Work Skills or Life Skills. Without these skills in place, you would not be able to express or demonstrate your other skills effectively – to get you the place you rightfully deserve in the corporate world.

Hi Tanyaa, excellent point.

Networking and communication. It's the lifeblood of a successful online business.

Presentation...
... Taking the heart and soul from pertinent professionals in each field and wrapping them into a 'Presentable' package. Or, simply creating and Presenting a beautiful plate of food for dinner.
... how about you Richard, what are your thoughts? (thanks for the post!)
best,

Hi Michael, elegantly put!

I believe that networking is the single most important skill, because it's fun, it's free and very effective but a good meal is a very close second!

So who would YOUR pertinent professionals be then Michael?

Oh boy Richard,
... at this point in my life it would probably be the likes of Gandhi or the Dali Lama. Someone who would connect with the pinned-up energy surrounding our attachment to the 'almighty' (material world) dollar. And, how one might learn with inner-peace the ability to grow, yet, stop it with the forever chasing of (gota' have this gota' have that) material rainbows.
... (mmmm, a touch of meta-physics, indeed).

Ghandi great choice.

I do like your thinking on these things.
It is difficult not to be a bit materialistic isn't it no matter how hard you try.

So what are your 5 favourite books then?

Man Richard... that's like asking someone to name their best child of many children.
However, realizing that books, like music and movies, are a plenty. And, any day
another could replace the later, here are a few past and present.

Like you, and many on this forum, marketing and copywriting research books
remain on my list. Going back... To Kill a Mockingbird (Lee), Dr. Jekyll and Mr.
Hyde (Stevenson), 1984 (or is it 2008? - Orwell). Recently... Omnivores Delima
(Pollard) and some fun studies of organization management insights, and how it relates
to Chaos/Quantum/InfinityMath theories for daily life and business applications called,
Leadership and the New Science (Wheatley).

ok, no fair asking a question like this again... ok?

Leadership is the ultimate skill of a business owner. Our job is not to do the work but inspire people to do it for us.

Absolutely, leadership is about not doing the work but making sure that it gets done.

Communication in a way that connects with people. Obama has it, McCain doesn't
