I just did a post on a new GFC directory. Google Friend Connect is picking up some steam, and now there are even directories of blogs that are GFC enabled.
Why?
Because the more groups you join, the more people see your pretty face, click on it, and see your links, for one.
It's also a new way to discover new sites/bloggers.
So here's a two step process:
1. Go to the Friday Traffic Report and join the GFC community. (Right sidebar midway down.)
2. Get your own GFC set up and list it here at Social Marketing Central by replying to this post with your URL where we can find and join your group.
Nice said Jack, I remember Twitter was the same a year or more ago. Nowadays everybody rush on Twitter and I already start to receive dozens of requests from spammers. In the end, this will kill Twitter...
The truth is the space I have on my blog is limited. Even I join GFC right from the start, I see no reason for the moment to put it into my blog. I prefer to keep that space for promoting my product instead.
Just my thought... for the moment!
Valeriu
PS: good to see that you're become active on this community! We needed that.
Since we are old timers here and friends across most of my sites, groups etc.I would not think I would have to explain this to you. Those of you that know me and have had any phone conversation know that I am the biggest GFC proponent there is. I am also the most skilled and informed authority on Google Social Networking.
Google Friend Connect is a PIECE, a very little piece of a MUCH larger enterprise level, multi application social network that Google has been building for YEARS, going back to Gmail. Do you ever wonder why Google is taking their time and rolling this out slowly and very cautiously? Professionally and without coding errors? Like they don't care (they don't) that Facebook Connect seems to be dominating the landscape and kickin Google's butt?
Most of you are new here, but do any of you old timers wonder what happened to me and why I disappeared? I have been so deep in this I barely surface for air. When Google added the Wiki to Google results, for three days that weekend Google ran the full on Google Social network and I saw it all. I took over 40 hours of video screen capture and this time no one can say I am wrong. I am probably the only person alive out side of Google that has seen this.
I know what Google is going to do and NO ONE else does. Not Jack, not Howie, not Michelle. ME. That's it. I got lucky is all, I don't know why but it happened. I even went to friends computers and logged into Google and it was not there. Only on my machine for three days. Really.
How about when Facebook rolled out their Facebook Connect and were labeled a phishing site? I even warned the developers and Facebook that very afternoon that this was going to happen and they told be I was "the stuff tin foil hats are made of..." Then after they were blocked I had to get with my anti virus connections to keep them from being blocked further. If you want to see all the links to this search "chris lang saves facebook"... TechCrunch even linked to my site and I broke that story.
Facebook was down for hours and blocked in 3 major browsers. Does that inspire confidence in Facebook Connect?
You can't even add Facebook Connect to your blog like Friend Connect because you have to code the application from the Facebook Connect API yourself. Yeah, that will be time well spent.
Google Friend Connect is just one piece of a social application that is so powerful Google does not care if we use it. Friend Connect is just a widget, a tool, a toy even. However what Google Friend Connect does do that is truly amazing....
When you join a blog thru the widget, the RSS feed is added to your Google Reader feeds by default and Google tracks this. Then Google uses the numbers for additional ranking indicators in Blogsearch and Websearch. All that information is here on SMC. I told everyone here about it six months ago. Just look thru the archives. I gave it all away and no one listened.
So, to answer your question Valeriu, let me ask you this: What would you rather have? A few sales or 1000s of RSS subscribers that you can sell to over and over? Don't judge Google by Friend Connect. You are seeing about 1% of the application.
If you want to know what is really coming read my Google Friend Connect Tutorial. I explain fully the 5 major pieces of Google's Social Network and how you benefit from using them.
Don't ask me more, I won't tell you. You know what to do, I am not giving this one away anymore.
Yeah, we are cross here and in other different networks. It's
nice to see you back. And BTW, I read your stuff, so I know a
"few" things about GFC and other networks.
The truth is, at the moment I wrote that post, I was really
pissed off by the lack of response to one of my posts in the
forum. And the lack of ANY response in other social networks.
So I simply wanted to fire up a little bit the discussion to see
if this is a "dead" network or not.
But I still do not find an answer... look just at the #'s of
reply to Jack's post.
And once again this pissed me off. After all, WHY we are HERE?
And why we are join other networks??!
Just to advertise our products? Or someone else?
I teach people into my new course that YOU HAVE to interact with
other people IF you want to succeed in social marketing. As I see
things here, this is not happening.
I presume first that we are gather here to exchange ideas, our
expertise, etc.
Am I wrong???
Valeriu
PS: I will go on your hand Chris with GFC. So I include it into
my Internet Profits Blog:
I can't believe that iBerbiz beat me, the frakin guy is everywhere.
Yeah, if you look back on my history I got pissed of here in October, I said forget it. Newbies come, newbies go. They run around trying every new POS and then fail at them all and quit.
ADVICE FROM A ONCE NEWBIE - Join one social site. Learn everything you can about it and PARTICIPATE. Facebook if you like live / phone / one on one networking. Digg if you want to use social bookmarking. Use Friend Connect and embrace Google fully now. If not, then you will be left behind by us that do.
Facebook Connect sucks, it is only a Microsoft marketing ploy to keep Google from taking over the entire Internet. To late, they already did.
If you would rather Facebook than blog, great, then Facebook.
If you have 200,000 Facebook contacts like my latest client does then stick with Facebook.
If you have a real blog, want to get ranked well in Google and do it right then go with Friend Connect.
But find one an stick with it. If you don't want to participate here and you really think you are going to sell your MLM hanging around, just go away and don't come back. That ain't what SMC is about and neither is social marketing.
As I see on most social sites Valeriu, it ain't happening there either, they just don't get it.
So, I will make you a deal V, if you work it here, so will I. I got sick of giving out high end stuff and then a month later have the same questions asked of me.
So, so else wants to work it here? Post links to good stuff. Give us feed back. Ask questions. You are NOT going to sell anything here. If that is why you are here, just leave. It ain't happening.
However, I made some of my best contacts here and REAL WORLD FRIENDS. That is why I am here, and Valieru too.
That is what is interesting here, I think a lot of people who come in here are still looking more ways to promote and run their business sometimes we forget where we've been what we've done. We've also had a lot of people in here who just came in ruffled feathers and started arguments.
I'm glad to see that a few of the original members in here are still around and are still coming in and helping in making a difference. I don't post a lot in here but I do read and like to see what others are doing, keep up the good work!
There are lots of newbies and others who can gain from your knowledge.
I'm 100% agree with you Chris! You people are waisting your time if you join 100's of networks and post just your selling stuff.
SM is NOT working this way. I like the way Chris define this:
"...they just don't get it."
And I'm wondering why????
Count on me to work on SMC. I will do it for a while. But if people will
still don't get it... well, I'm not a good samaritan. I will certainly leave it.
What do you say Jack? You promise to be here everyday in a recent post...
Social marketing is a tough nutt. People think this is a classified ad site. It does not work that way. It is about finding the contacts that will make you AND your business a success.
I can find JV partners and colaborators everywhere. But what I cannot find are FRIENDS that are also in business. I have huge SEO contacts, CEOs of the firm. I have top 100 Digg users that I have the phone number of. I have about a hundred social contacts that help me out when I need a few hundred Diggs.
I have the personal contact information of the most powerful social media users on the planet. Most days these people love Chris Lang. Somedays they hate me, but at the end of it all, I have PERSONAL relationships with them all.
A year ago, I had no idea how to get even 2 Diggs on a post. Now I am a social bookmarking expert with hundreds of top notch contacts. It all started here with Michael Lofton. My first social media consult.
How did I do that? I am the most prolific participant here. I have posted almost 400 times. If you do the math that is 30% of the content. I just kept going and as I went my rep grew (and not always a good one LOL) and so did my knowedge and my wealth of friends.
It has been one hell of a ride this past year. I have been rich, I have been homeless. I have acheived my greatest successes and been driven out of business by a software error in a antivirus database.
I would not have it any other way than the way it played out. And it all started here by asking questions, presenting my own viewpoints and PARTICIPATING.
Yep - I'm makin the effort! Would like to see more threads like this started so people start to see there's good work they can accomplish here. Rather than all the other sites where you feel like you just wasted time, let's make this one where we get something done every time we login!
