We are thinking about running some small ads on Facebook. Has anyone in the community had experience with ads on Facebook? What type of response did you receive?
We have a Focus Community member that is looking for some help with this - any insight?
In my observation, "ads" and "social networking" do not go together.
In spite of the huge numbers for Internet commerce, almost all Internet traffic is still the free exchange of information (searches, email, messaging, etc.).
What I find most effective on Facebook is to look for people with a common interest. I invite them to be friends, and mention the interest. Upon their acceptance, they almost always ask about what I do. I then invite them to a group that I created. This effectively puts them on a list that I send messages to once or twice a week.
I find this "anti-selling" approach to be very effective.
I learned from Seth Godin that there's a right and a wrong way to do social networking.
