Social Marketing Central!

It seems that some people are getting just a little overwhelmed with facebook.

One CNN reporter described how they are drowning in the mass of apps that friends keep sending to them.

I still don't know how John reese is planning to market big-time on facebook as I am beginning to wonder if any marketing message may be lost among the "noise".
I know that I have been refusing apps, everything from "hugs" to drinks to I lose track. This could be a problem. I reckon that facebook will soon only be good for getting site backlinks to try and up Google rankings.

We shall see.

The number of time-wasting apps is overwhelming. I refuse most of them as well.

I've found the most value in groups. Both starting them and being part of them.

I agree with you there doug. My profile page was beginning to resemble a rollof toilet paper.

Yeah... I'm a Facebook noobie.

All those apps are annoying, most are silly and a waste of time.

I agree with Doug, the Groups seem to hold the value.

Tonight, I'm planning to listen in on the Mari Smith/Ben Mack Facebook Teleseminar to get more of a clue about Facebook.

As a noob when I first signed up and started getting friends in Facebook, I fell for all the apps. requests. As I now have 54 requests that I have just left unanswered, I agree with the frustration felt by the time it would take to really do all of these. I also agree that I have received great value with the groups and the postings from some of the people who do pertinent info and not the "silly" apps.

I do believe that this disfavor with Facebook and especially with the FB apps. is not something new. If you haven't seen this yet, here is a video done in February and with over 3 million views; this says it all.

Lets face it...facebook is for teens and twenty somethings who want to arrange their next big night out. WE are getting fatigued because we are old in internet terms and we get fatigued easily buy all those funky gizmos. BTW you can buy me a drink at http://profile.to/raphanius/

LOL...

After visiting Facebook a few times I wondered what I was doing around there.
I couldn't stand the host of teenagers trying to "prod, poke or throw sheep,
grow something, test something or be a fan". I want real conversations and
real relationships to grow, give and learn from.

John

Backlinks?

Much of Facebook isn't crawled.

If you are looking to blast out "old school" you will get lost in the noise where ever you go. The noise is all over, not just on FB, the net or any one medium

People are still yearning to connect, and they can on FB. There is an ignore all button on the requests page. I don't ever look at that garbage any more.

Groups are formed where real people have real conversations. Since we know that people buy from those that they know, like and trust, all you need today is to be a person worth knowing.

Just today, I picked up a new high dollar client on Twitter. She saw that I was there giving help to others, and wanted my services. I've done the same on Facebook

It's great to have tools. Just don't try to scam them

Great stuff Warren - your point is so right that people buy from people they know, like and trust. Congrats on the new client!

Hi John,

I agree and for me, the key is Balance. I don't have time for virtual drinks or flowers--however--I'm big on relationships, always have been. It's harder to get a "feel" for people online than it is face to face but the same principles apply.

I don't approach people only when I need something from them. As Jack is promoting here, it's a give and take. I try to introduce people on FB where it makes good sense, I try to help when I see an opportunity (helped a friend connect to a designer this morning) and create a win-win approach. In return, I have been introduced to people that have mutual interests where we will be able to work together toward common goals - or just good sensible business networking.

Yes, there's a great marketing opportunity, but not if we pollute it to the point that the water stinks. If I send a Friend request I always try to say why and I really appreciate when others do the same. I don't want to feel like you're playing pin the tail on the mutual facebook friend and landed on me.

As a friend of mine likes to say "How you show up here is how you show up in life"....... What do I know, I am SimplyD....

I block the common apps people keep sending and sending. I don't need Karma, to be the coolest kid, and certainly don't need any of the myriad dating apps to find out who likes my eyes.

The block button works wonders - you never have to see the popular but time wasting apps again.

I'm very much a noob when it comes to FB- and after I set my page up have spent almost no time there. As I am with all of these networks I'm just finding my way and trying to be of service to others... Anyone got any ideas to shorten my learning curve?
